We tried – IPS display revolution by LG
We arrived to the end of review. We know IPS panel now which is important because we will refer this article in the future. We have heard it said LG will bring four displays with IPS panel this year. There will be two standard a gamer and a professional models. Latter will have not just tilt option but spin option too.
As we wrote at lead-in this year have not organized yet we was waiting. We forecasted TN panel with Full LED backlit therefore lighting positioned behind to the whole panel, not just at the edge of rim. In case of Full LED picture split off more cells for better contrast ratio.
Altough we have to wait for Full LED but we got a much better technology which is IPS panel with affordable price. We could buy displays with IPS panel earlier but these were expensive and could not spread. We said these are produced for work because colors are better than at TN panel.
That was true but broaden with the fact, we can afford IPS luxury –who are not doing graphical job just want to see better picture quality– becuase of the lower price. Displays with IPS panel are not cheap at all just slipped down to affordable region. Of course cheapness is relative because there are displays with CCFL and LED backlit or IPS solutions. These are not vary in each other, at least all give picture. It is like case of Opel and Audi. Both german, both have minimum four wheels and we can get from A point to B, just everything else is different.
Of course difference in prices between Opel and Audi is much higher (the ratio) than between displays TN and IPS panel. We have to spend +20% for the better quality but recenlty it was almost 100%.
The question is –like in every review ending– buying display with IPS panel is worthy? If you do not mind what kind of quality shows on you monitor than no. Letters are readable at cheap and expensive display too. Buf if we want picture reach in details than yes. We have both IPS and CCFL TN panel on the desk and these are Heaven and Earth. We do not pile it on. IPS knowledge shows beside TN.
The worst part is coming about LG’s new IPS236V-PN monitor: it is not ours we have to give it back tomorrow.
