Shuttle XS3510MA: dream come true 1

Of course it is not all about the looking and numbers, we have to try the divice. It will be compared with previous Atom-based computers which was in our studio. We will see how good is the Shuttle nettop and how developed Atom technology.

We used regular softwares except Everest which changed to AIDA64. We really like old name’s nostalgia. We measured speed of memory and storage, sent CineBenc R10 and WinRAR to the field. We did not use the newest version of CineBench because we can compare old results this way.

If Atom, we wondered the energy usage. In the previous side we saw at specifications the AC Adapter is not a body builder type so we anticipate that energy bill will not eat our purse. We watched without loading and full loading too. Well without loading it ate 22 Watt, 27 Watt at Furmark and 29 Watt with Auda64. I think value speaks for itself. Usage of nettop is around a normal bulbs 35-40%.

Let’s see quickly the print sceens and the consequence schedule!

The new atom is better than old in every sight. But there is a point where we noticed interesting phenomenon, that is h.264 HD playing. We thought playing 1080p is rough, so we watched loading of processor and saw every thread (two physical core and two logical -because of HT-) and each was 90% up. Loading of GPU was around 45% that time. That was clear GPU did not help playing because in the other way cores’ loading were smaller. But there was even 45% loading at GPU and this is thought-provoking. Which is sure we did not see GPU accelerate at Media Player Classic and it is a trusted softeware in testing. That is a fact GPU accelerate did not work and CPU is slight for playing high resolution alone.

Luckily we hitted to try Windows Media Center because it support GPU accelerate. So we had a few experiences. Tge most important thing that we got another CPU loading results at MCE, so we think Ion support is not available in every software. On the other hand, that is a matter what was packed into the mkv file. Some video get squared some movies played well without error. It is a sign for small software problems. Of course Ion 2 is a very new technology and its support will better soon.

Finally there is a print screen as proof what can do a correct GPU accelerate with Full HD video. Compare with previeous CPU loading picture is worthy!
